Should Palm Coast let residents park a single commercial vehicle in their driveways?

The city has released a survey on the city website at https://www.palmcoastgov.com/government/customerservice/survey, and the City Council will consider the topic at a future workshop, according to a news release from the city.

The council had decided at an April 13 workshop to survey residents before making a decision. The survey will be available through June 1.

The current city code, in Chapter/Section 44-34, Sub-section C, bans the parking in residential areas of any commercial vehicles with advertising markings that are larger than 3 square feet per side, unless the vehicle is on a call for service. That means that locals who own businesses and have signage on their cars in excess of the size limit can be fined for parking in their own driveways.

City Councilman Victor Barbosa — who received a city warning notice for his own truck, which bears advertising signage for the barbershop he owns — had pressed the council to consider changing the rule.

The city will release a virtual town hall video on May 7 about the commercial vehicle code, according to the news release. It can be viewed on the city’s YouTube channel (@palmcoastgovtv) and Facebook page (@palmcoastgov).
